Green Society of India Organizes Composting, Kitchen Gardening, and Vertical Farming Workshop in Delhi NCR Schools

The Green Society of India recently hosted an inspiring Composting, Kitchen Gardening, and Vertical Farming Workshop for students in schools across Delhi NCR. What made this workshop stand out were the stories of students who took the knowledge they gained and put it into action, creating positive environmental change in their own lives and communities.

Riya’s Journey with Kitchen Gardening

Riya, a 12-year-old student from Noida, was one of the many who left the workshop with a newfound passion for gardening. She shared how she had started her own kitchen garden at home, growing fresh herbs like coriander and mint. “I never knew I could grow my own coriander and mint at home! Now, I have a small pot on my windowsill, and every time I use the fresh herbs for cooking, it feels so rewarding,” she said, beaming with pride.

Riya’s mother is also thrilled with the results. “We used to buy herbs from the store, but they would often wilt quickly. Now, we have fresh herbs whenever we need them, and it’s so easy to take care of them,” she explained. Riya’s small act has not only changed her family’s approach to food but also reduced waste and packaging, contributing to a more sustainable lifestyle.

Aarav’s Composting Revolution at Home

Aarav, 14, was deeply moved by the composting session and decided to take immediate action at home. “I used to throw away so much kitchen waste, not realizing that we could actually reuse it. But after the workshop, I convinced my parents to start composting,” Aarav said enthusiastically.

In just a few weeks, Aarav’s family set up a compost bin in their garden, and they now regularly use the compost to nourish their plants. “It’s incredible to see how something that was once waste is now helping our garden grow. I’m proud that we’re reducing our garbage and helping the environment,” Aarav shared.

Not stopping at home, Aarav also launched a composting initiative at his school, encouraging his classmates and teachers to start composting their organic waste. “It feels good to make a change, even in a small way. Hopefully, others will be inspired to do the same,” he added.

Shreya’s Vertical Farming Dream

Shreya, another enthusiastic participant, was captivated by the idea of vertical farming and how it could transform small urban spaces. “I never thought we could grow food on our terrace! After the workshop, I shared the idea with my parents, and we’ve already started planning a small vertical farm,” Shreya said with excitement.

Her vision is to grow tomatoes, spinach, and lettuce on her family’s rooftop. “It’s amazing that we can grow so much in such a small space. I’m looking forward to seeing fresh vegetables on our plates—straight from our rooftop!” she exclaimed.

Shreya is determined to make this dream a reality. “Not only will we have fresh food, but it’s also a great way to use space creatively and contribute to the environment,” she added. Shreya’s enthusiasm for vertical farming has inspired her friends, and she hopes to set up a small vertical farm at school as well.

The Ripple Effect: Students Leading the Change

The Green Society of India workshop has sparked a wave of change among students, who are now actively working towards making their homes and schools more sustainable. Whether it’s composting kitchen waste, starting a kitchen garden, or experimenting with vertical farming, these students are embracing environmental responsibility with great enthusiasm.

In addition to their personal efforts, many students have taken it upon themselves to share what they’ve learned with their families and communities. For instance, Aarav’s composting initiative at his school has encouraged more students to take action, and Riya plans to start a gardening club with her friends to spread awareness about growing food at home.

Small Actions, Big Impact

The stories of Riya, Aarav, and Shreya are just a few examples of the powerful impact that hands-on learning can have on young minds. These students are not only adopting sustainable practices in their own homes but are also becoming advocates for change in their communities.

The Green Society of India’s workshop has shown that when students are empowered with knowledge and practical tools, they can become true agents of change, leading the way toward a greener, healthier world. These stories are just the beginning. As the students of Delhi NCR continue to explore new ways of living sustainably, we can only look forward to the ripple effect of their actions spreading far and wide.

Stay tuned for more updates on upcoming workshops and environmental programs by the Green Society of India. Together, we can cultivate a greener, healthier future for all!
