Strategic Collaboration with Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa for Environmental Transformation.

In a major boost to Delhi’s environmental movement, Shri Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Hon’ble Minister for Environment, Forest & Wildlife, Government of Delhi, has confirmed his presence as Chief Guest and Inaugurator of the World Environment Expo (WEE) 2025. The expo, organized by the Green Society of India (GSI) and Indian Exhibition Services (IES), will serve as a national platform to promote sustainability, green innovation, and collective environmental action.

In a recent follow-up meeting, Minister Sirsa lauded the vision and commitment of GSI, emphasizing the urgency of strengthening community participation and institutional synergy to address Delhi’s mounting environmental challenges. His endorsement signals strong government commitment to turning awareness into tangible, on-ground action.

Key Initiatives Discussed

The meeting spotlighted several community-driven programs proposed by GSI as part of a broader strategy for sustainable urban development:
  • Green-Utsav: A vibrant public festival designed to blend cultural celebration with environmental education—empowering citizens through interactive green-themed experiences.
  • Green Parenting: A unique initiative aimed at equipping parents with tools to raise environmentally conscious children, fostering long- term behavioral change at the family level.

  • Awareness Workshops: Targeted sessions in schools, public venues, and community spaces to build environmental literacy and promote grassroots engagement across age groups.
  • 10,000 Tree Plantation Drive: A large-scale afforestation effort incorporating Miyawaki forest techniques to create urban green lungs in schools, parks, and institutional campuses—boosting biodiversity, improving air quality, and mitigating the urban heat island effect.

Spotlight on E-Waste Management

A key highlight of the meeting was the E-Waste Collection Drive, GSI’s flagship campaign to combat the rapidly growing threat of electronic waste in urban environments. Minister Sirsa expressed strong interest the initiative, recognizing its urgency and potential impact. He assured his willingness to provide institutional support and facilitate coordination to enhance its outreach and effectiveness.

Importantly, the Minister welcomed further discussion on land access and permissions for setting up designated e-waste storage and collection centers—an essential step to ensuring safe handling, segregation, and recycling of electronic waste across Delhi.

Areas of Requested Government Support

To ensure successful execution of these wide-ranging initiatives, GSI respectfully sought the Minister’s support in the following key areas:

Financial grants and government assistance to enable scalable, long-term implementation of programs.

Land access and permissions not only for tree plantations and Miyawaki forest development, but also for establishing secure and environmentally compliant e-waste storage and collection zones.

Institutional coordination across relevant departments to streamline permissions, logistics, and monitoring.

A Unified Vision for Sustainable Delhi

This meeting marks a defining moment in Delhi’s environmental roadmap. With Minister Sirsa’s proactive leadership and collaborative mindset, the World Environment Expo 2025 and its allied campaigns are poised to set new benchmarks in sustainable urban transformation.
