Global Collaboration for a Greener Tomorrow
Planting Hope, Growth, and Sustainability from Ireland to India
In April 2025, as the soft sun bathed Hauz Khas Forest, New Delhi, the Green Society of India (GSI), together with 15 passionate students from University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland, came together to plant 30 native saplings. This initiative was more than just planting trees—it was a commitment to a greener, cooler, and sustainable future.
The saplings included Jamun, Ashoka, Shehtoot, and Peepal, each symbolizing hope, growth, and collective action toward building resilient urban greenery.

The Power of Youth and Global Collaboration
The UCD students, visiting India as part of an academic and cultural exchange, brought energy, enthusiasm, and global perspective to the drive. Working alongside local volunteers, they demonstrated the importance of youth-led environmental action.
“This collaboration embodies the spirit of global citizenship. It’s inspiring to see students take action and leave behind something meaningful in the heart of India.”
— Surabhi Joshi, Regional Director, South Asia, UCD

Why Urban Tree Plantations Matter
Delhi faces extreme heat during April and the summer months, with temperatures often exceeding 40°C. Urban greenery plays a crucial role in:
- Cooling city spaces and reducing the Urban Heat Island effect
- Improving air quality by absorbing carbon dioxide and pollutants
- Providing shade and comfort for residents and communities
- Supporting biodiversity, offering habitats for birds, insects, and other wildlife
Planting native and climate-resilient trees is not just for beautification—it is a practical solution to the city’s climate challenges. Trees act as natural air conditioners, restore ecological balance, and help combat the harsh realities of climate change.
How You Can Make a Difference
Every sapling planted contributes to a healthier, greener, and cooler Delhi. Here’s how you can get involved:
- Join Plantation Drives: Participate in upcoming GSI tree plantation initiatives
- Volunteer with Us: Help coordinate and educate communities on environmental stewardship
- Support Our Green Initiatives: Contribute resources to expand tree planting and urban greenery
Making a Lasting Impact
Through this drive, GSI expanded Delhi’s green cover while emphasizing the power of cross-cultural collaboration and youth engagement. Even small actions like planting a sapling can have a significant, lasting impact on the environment and community well-being.
Join Us. Plant Hope. Grow a Greener Future.
Together, we can build a city that is cooler, cleaner, and more sustainable. Your participation can help shape a resilient urban ecosystem for generations to come.
