Delhi’s scorching summer is not just uncomfortable — it’s life-threatening. As temperatures soar beyond safe limits, the city’s most vulnerable — street animals, sabziwalas, delivery workers, and other outdoor laborers — face the brunt of the crisis.

On Street Animals

• Dehydration & Heatstroke: No access to clean water or shade.
• Hunger: Birds and strays struggle to find food.
• Suffering in Silence: No shelter from concrete streets radiating heat.

On Outdoor Workers

• Heat-related illnesses like heatstroke and dehydration are common and often fatal.
• Many lack access to shade, clean drinking water, and basic rest facilities.
• Thousands of lives are lost in India every year due to extreme heat exposure.

How You Can Help

🐾 Support Street Animals

• Water Bowl Drive: Place clay/mud bowls in shaded corners.

 

 

 

 

 

Refill with clean, cool water twice in a day

• DIY Shade: Use jute sacks, old umbrellas, or card board sheets can provide lifesaving shade.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Pick low traffic corners near parks, markets or sidewalks.

• Feed: Cooked food (rice, roti, and daliya are easy to digest) for strays; grains for birds. Offer food and electrolytes.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Keep a plate of bajra, rice or chana in your balcony or window. Even 50g a day can feed a flock!

Spot and help distressed animals

Signs:

• Panting
• drooling
• disorientation — act fast.
